New Banner, New Look, New Website - Yep That's Right!

Less that a year after our first launch we are updating!

You all have probably noticed some changes in the blog and at our etsy shop. It is part of a minor design overhaul due to a compatibility issue between our current address and our new Shop:
http://www.MetalWaterStudio.BigCartel.com

The cart will be active August 1, 2011, a bit later than we anticipated. Fortunately it will be browse-able to all, so you can get a sneak peek in before purchasing is active.

As much as we have loved our first service, we must think about what is best for MWS, and we are quite please with preliminary set-up and can't wait for it to launch. We will be keeping our current gallery space up and active:

Other ways to see us are still:

We hope you like the new look, and we look forward to releasing new work soon.

MWS Knives and Props in Independant Productions

After Selling out of our new props at the MWHC, MWS received a great review from an independent filming studio using our handmade axe prop for:
Rewritten: A Delightfully Dark Fairy Tale Film Production.
Here is a promo we were sent using the axe

This is a great production company
N’ovation Productions
a STUDENT-RUN and SELF-FUNDED organization.
So check them out sometime. The film has recieved amazing reviews :

"What started as nothing more than a spark of an idea by an Indiana University film student, Rewritten: A Delightfully Dark Fairy Tale has evolved into one of the most ambitious and FANTASTICAL feature films ever to be produced in Bloomington, Indiana."

We are thrilled for these guys and hope you check out the film, which is getting great recognition in its early days.

After MWHC: Success!

We had a fantastic show at the MidWest Haunter's Con, thank you to Barry and the others who coordinate the show, as well as the great volunteers, and other vendors who made the experience a good one for us. A Special shout out goes to Russel from The Corpses Hollow and also to Jesse (13th Hour Magazine), The great duo of A Shot in the Dark Sounds and to Juan and Xavier Garcia from Altered Flesh FX--- thanks guys, you made the experience that much better for MWS.

In all the chaos we were able to take some photos of the MWS booth (over shoulder), as well as a few of the great surrounding vendors.

Final Info For MidWest Haunters Con 2011

For those of you who still need info (even though I already gave it to all you hooligans )

The MidWest Haunters Convention will be June 3-5 (4-5 is the actual  tradeshow) at the Greater Columbus Convention Center attached to the Hyatt downtown. It's location is on the corner of Nationwide Blvrd. and High Street, right across from the Arena District.

MetalWaterStudio will be in booth # 805 on the left wall of the hall.

For more info on this as well as convention events, competitions, vendors, etc. Please visit:   http://www.midwesthauntersconvention.com/

Again, we hope to see everyone there!

Last Custom Prosthesis Before MWHC

As promised here are a couple of quick photos in the studio of our new Jackalope Horn design at the request of a great MWS customer.

The first edition is done in the same Natural Light Brown that our Little Faun prosthesis comes in. We will be adding a couple more color options, but of course everything is still available for custom orders and finishes. They measure about twice what our little fauns are, so roughly 3.5-4".

We will be bringing some of these with us to MWHC. At this point in the game it will probably be a limited quantity, however we will be adding it to this year's ordering forms, so no worries if you miss out at the convention.

Iron Axes, Knives and Scythes, Oh My!

We are releasing some prop weapons this year :) Along with that, some vintage style tools will be added, like axes, scythes and the like, and we are excited! This came from a late night of creating (and cleaning) and viola! we had some realistic looking weapons shinning back at us!
From Right to Left: "The Psycho Shank", "The Pig Sticker", "The Commando", and "The Butcher"
These range from $20 to $30 for each hand made knife and will be available at our etsy shop.

We are slowly attempting to release these four along with our Vintage Style Murder Axe before the MWHC show this June, but there is a lot to do! Below is a completed vintage style axe, that is made from soft urethane foam, perfect for when you need a lighter, but realistic prop. It comes complete with a real 32" wooden handle dirtied up to look old and worn.

"The Butcher" Handle

As the MWHC date gets closer we are scrambling to wrap it all up for the show, however this will not be the end to the items we will be releasing. Look out for our new mask lines, as well as some excellent new prosthesis items.

No. 3 in ButtonEye: Arachnee A.K.A The Puppet Master Coming Soon!

The third in the series by T Colque here, is the Arachnee Button Eye as I've been calling it, a hybrid that takes on an eerie arachnid personality.

In Greek and Roman Mythology, as well as folklore from cultures all over the world, Arachne was a great mortal weaver and loomstress who's skill was so admired, people came from all over to see her. Her fame became so intoxicating, that Arachne boasted her skill surpassed that of the great Goddess Minerva (or Athena as most of us know her).

Arachne insulted the goddess by not acknowledging that her skill ultimately came from Athena, so the goddess in upset, pitched a contest between Arachne and herself. Ultimately the goddess became so enraged with jealousies toward the the mortal's weaving success (and not to mention the subject matter of her weaving--The Twenty One Episodes of infidelity by the Gods), that Athena tore apart the work and ultimately condemned Arachne to life as a spider.
"So you shall live to swing, to live now and forever, Even to the last hanging creature of your kind."

We hope to release this finished design in the next week, so stay tuned and check out the Etsy store, and our web catalog coming soon to our official site.

Website and Store Coming Soon!

Finally! MWS will have an official public site with a public store. We love Etsy, it gave us our first store and our first shot, and we are grateful and better for it. We will still be keeping our store there, however time and demand has come that we have an official domain and finally here it is, store coming soon!:

                                                   http://www.MetalWaterStudio.com

Designed by K Firor of MWS, we are very excited to have our public domain.

We will be releasing a catalog in our new store with the new designs so far from 2011, plus some things we haven't released yet. We have been working to release new prosthesis designs and have really enjoyed doing some things that we haven't seen yet.

We love these Black Gunmetal back spikes. They're great for many uses (we particularly like them on the arms, photos coming soon). They are very light, and easy to apply and use, T.C. here couldn't even feel them on in the photo shoot.
We sculpt the skin like we sculpt the horn, so they are easier to blend and a lot more realistic than your average appliance. We will be releasing similar designs, clusters, and other body appliances, as well as another mask line---or two!

AlterEgo Mask Update

I said there would be AlterEgo sculpt update and here are a few for you. This is the first in the series, the concept being our Alter Ego Inner Consciousness, inspired by Native Myth and multi cultural stories of shamans and shape shifters.

One of my new favorite movies thanks to T.C. here, happens to be The Island of Dr. Moreau,

1996 Movie Cover, (pics from Wikipedia)

Movie Scene Clip, Hyena (you may recognize Ron Perlman) and Cheetah

The story of a scientist with a god complex who moves to an island where he can manipulate DNA of humans and animals. Seeking the ideal balance of the peaceful creature, he finds he loses control, and that his creations (his "children") must cope with what he has made them, and he realizes too late what he has done. (great photo archive at this blog: http://movie-memorabilia-emporium.blogspot.com)
Powerful inspiration for this new mask/creature line at MWS.

You may notice that this is the Hawk version in this line, and no I did not lose the frontal pics (wow that sounds wrong) those will come before molding this piece. Hey I did say "Teaser Photos".

This mask is designed to move with the features and for one to be able to speak through the beak as they would through lips, since it is sculpted to work with the mouth. Lots of bird research. There are amazing aviary creatures out there.
I used a mix of inspiration, from Hawks and Falcons to African Ground birds. I wanted this creature to be versatile, able to look fierce ( studying hawks is very useful), or sad or sweet. The idea, really is to have the person wearing this to not just put it on, but to become it, to feel the essence of this realistic fantastic creature.

February Updates

It has been a strange couple of months here at MWS, and overall in the world. Weather has been nuts, even rendering the studio without power for almost a week. We also spent a lot of studio time motel hopping, a very interesting experience if I say so! Now I decided while being a bit under the weather and in bed, that I could do something, so I am updating.
Here is an interesting technique that we are re-introducing into the studio, leather sculpted costume accessories.

Just a teaser photo for now, you will be able to see the piece in it's entirety listed in the etsy store.
There will be different colors and styles. This piece is a neck piece that doubles as an eye patch. We are very excited to make multi-use pieces and props. This is done with high quality human taxidermy eyes, up-cycled leather, and waxed cotton. We will be releasing pieces with creature eyes, mountain lion, reptile, etc.

Also soon to come, AlterEgo a creature mask line designed by K Firor here at MWS, as well as a traditional style latex, creature-horror mask line by T Colque. Details soon to come, but I can tell you they are very interesting. The new "Button" line by T.C is a continuation from this first piece:

We are having a great time experimenting for the MWHC this June, and are working to incorporate some traditional techniques that we have picked up over the years. T.C. has extensive experience in all manner of three dimensional mediums, and along with 3D illustration background they both share, K.F. has extensive experience in jewelry and textiles techniques.
"Bubba" is the next in the new line by T.C. of MWS. This is the preliminary, and not the complete first  paint job but we like it so much here it is:

I will be posting updates to this design and the next in the series (which I'm excited to say he is almost finished with the sculpt), with the ties and full paint jobs as well as sculpt teasers for the first AlterEgo piece.

Predator Kit UPDATE:

Due to the rise in material cost, we have started bidding for the Predator kits at $150 on our ebay store     http://myworld.ebay.com/metalwatercreaturedesigns
Get them while they last. The kit includes a tracker helmet fully hand sculpted by Tony Colque of MWS, two solid cast hand sculpted tusks, laser targeting module, and real leather strips so that you can accurately accent your tusks like the original!

We will be listing them individually, the current bid is $150, with six days left. If you do not wish to buy the blank kit and have a custom request for a helm, or if you do not wish to buy through Ebay, please contact us through our Etsy store: www.MetalWaterStudio.etsy.com OR shoot us an e-mail: MetalWaterStudio@gmail.com
We would be happy to work with you to create a custom finish or design.

This is NOT your average "dixie plate" casting; This mask is so thick you need to watch your toes! Measuring up to two inches thick in some areas and at least one inch cast everywhere else, this is a well made heavy duty fan prop that Predator Fans should not miss! - Tony C. MWS

NEW DESIGNS!

We have started production of this year's horn line, with some very detailed pieces. One of our highlighted sets are our new Oni Demon horns. They measure approximately 5" long, are very easy to apply, are lighweight and lend a very striking accent to any costume. They are available for custom finish, but will be available through our etsy store in various colors.
Stay tuned for more design releases coming soon to our etsy store:

We are working on styles that one might not find in normal prosthesis sources. Above is a new design, very bull-like when worn on the forehead. They are again, very lightweight and great for many possibilities: Our customers order our horns and other prosthesis for professional photo shoots, live and video performances, celebrations, events, solstices, Burning Man, and much more.
We are excited in the anticipation of our new full scale Ram's Horn Prosthesis, the first test scheme coming out this week, so stay tuned. We have done a lot of research and have found that we are the only ones who currently make full scale horns like this. The taxidermy sites don't carry them, and we are very proud to be able to offer this to our customers.  They are molded from hand sculpted horns.

We have unfortunately discontinued last year's Little Rhino design, however we have been designing a newer, sleeker version (pictured above), with differed options (like "skinned" prosthesis) :

and more sizes in this design to come. We will be releasing brand new designs such as the above 5" Oni design in the coming weeks.
We will also be releasing an ear prosthesis line as well as spine and spot pieces! You can also find great directions on how to apply your prosthesis at our etsy store under policies in the "additional policies" section: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MetalWaterStudio/policy
Also keep checking back for the release of our larger haunters props and prosthesis soon to come!

MWS Featured on Celebrate Odd Etsy!

We thought we would let everyone know we have been featured on the widely followed (we follow it too) blog:    http://www.celebrateoddetsy.blogspot.com/  :)

A blog dedicated to "Celebrate all that is odd and wonderful on Etsy!" where the blog has so lovingly expressed how there are wonders to be found in the odd and strange, the- not something you would find everyday of the Etsian Community. We are very proud to belong to that group. Odd IS good! So thank you once again COE!

Also we should give a shout out to Rachel of TheLastLittleBird.etsy.com for featuring us on her squidoo for "Costume Accessories for when you Don't Have a Costume". She chose to feature our little Rhino Wedge horn prosthetic appliance:

Which have been very popular this past Halloween 2010, and can be purchased here on our etsy page:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/60178274/little-rhino-wedge-horn-prosthetic-ooak

They are less than an inch long and approximately half an inch in diameter, easy to apply in about ten minutes, just apply the adhesive, let dry, stick to body, and Ta Da! You have a costume. Hey if Charmed can stick some horns on a biker looking dude and call him a Demon---So can you!
Thank you again Rachel, we are thrilled that you featured us on your squidoo! We really appreciate all the support from friends, fans and our fellow artists.
